The Big Bands Company (BBC) Schaumburg e.V., a registered charity based in Stadthagen, has set itself the aim of organising unusual cultural events – and, in particular, special musical events – in Schaumburg and the surrounding area.

To this end, the association has been running its own small musical ensemble for the past 19 months, comprising strings, brass and woodwinds, two pianists and percussion – currently numbering 35 musicians – known as the BBC Schaumburg Philharmonics Orchestra, or ‘BBC Schaumburg Phili “O”’ for short. In addition to this orchestra, the BBC Schaumburg Salon Orchestra and the BBC Schaumburg Big Band are set to be established shortly.

Lindhorst. The 35-piece BBC Phili ‘O’ orchestra will be performing for the first time at the Evangelical Lutheran St Dionysius Church in Lindhorst this coming Sunday, 20 September, at 4 pm. The programme will feature a selection of catchy tunes from the 19th-century Romantic period, presented in original arrangements created specifically for the orchestra. : The programme includes, for example, Brahms’s Hungarian Dances, Rubinstein’s Melody in F, excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s ballet music, Offenbach’s Barcarolle and Can-Can, and Grieg’s Solveig’s Song. These are among the most popular and best-known pieces in the Romantic repertoire. Donations are welcome at the door. Doors open at 3.30 pm.

“And there will also be a few bars by Mozart – he simply has to feature amongst our catchy tunes,” assures BBC chairman Lutz Müller, who will also guide the audience through the concert with his humorous commentary. Conductor José Pascual García Llopis will lead the orchestra. Llopis is a member of the Federal Police Orchestra in Hanover and also conducts the Langenhagen Wind Orchestra. As a musician, he is a welcome guest at the State Operas of Hanover and Braunschweig, the Schleswig-Holstein State Theatre, the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Wernigerode Chamber Orchestra.
